Kirppareilla haahuillessa törmää usein täysin mielivaltaisesti hinnoiteltuihin levyihin. Myötähäpeä, huvitus ja vitutus lienevät ne yleisimmät mielialat, joita ko. käytäntö meikäläisessä aiheuttaa. Oikeastaan tuntuu jopa hiukan omituiselta, etteivät myyjät itse tajua hintojensa epäsuhtaisuutta, vaikka samat levyt seisovat kuukausi tolkulla laatikoissa.

Myös tämän viikon levy jäi ekalla näkemällä hyllyyn. Entuudestaan levy ei ollut tuttu ja hintalapussa luki 4 euroa. Köyhällä opiskelijalla kun ei ole varaa ostaa senkään hintaista "hyllyntäytettä". Toisella näkemällä oli onneksi vanha kunnon kannettava mukana, ja melkoisen kovaksihan tämä levy osoittautui.

Kyseessä on nimensä mukaisesti länsirannikolta ponnistava nelihenkinen Soul-pumppu West Wing. Levy ilmestyi vuonna 1975 20th Century Recordsilla ja on ilmeisesti yhtyeen eka ja ainoa julkaisu. Näyteraidaksi valitsin julkaisun tuottajanakin häärineen Barry Whiten hitin I'm Gonna Love You Just Little More Baby. Mielestäni aika lailla parempi versio kuin originaali, kaikkien tuntema kutuhitti.

Summer holiday is nothing without a couple of visits to the beautiful countryside of Finland. Last weekend my pick of choise was Loimaa. There are about three or four fleamarkets over there - no one which stands over the others. Over the years it's usually been trip of one or two finds. Never anything really spectacular.

This time it was a little bit better though. First pick was Heaven Right Here on Earth by Natural Four. In my opinion it's a good soul-lp for home listening or for early hours of the night - no real dancefloor material on it anyway. Track to be posted here is called Count On Me.

Another pick from the city of Loimaa was Hat Rock 1 -collection from 1976. It features finnish progressive rock scene with a scale of 10 different bands. Not really my favourites to be honest. But still couple of nice tracks on it, for example Boogie by Kalevala. Nice drumbreak in the middle!


My digging trip to countryside was crowned by these super nice vintage headphones by Sanyo. I was suspicious about their functionality, but proved to be wrong as they work just fine. Any ideas, in which year they were made?

Hello again. Visited Barcelona last week so blog got some downtime. Weather was hot as hell but nice trip after all. Unfortunately I didn't have time to hit the fleamarkets and because this blog is dedicated to fleamarket picks exclusively, no goodies from the south.

However my summer holiday is still going strong and it was time for digging again today. Sometimes it's good to go thru crates that you have scanned many times before. As today, I picked up this one: Mr. Morse and His New Alphaband - S.O.S., I'm In love, Italian modernsouldisco groover published by EMI at 1977.

Does anyone have info of the rarity on this one? Cover says it's made in Italy but on the label "Made in Finland". Rare or not, It's one of the best seven inchers that I have ever found and it truly made my day. Enjoy.

Different types of Hair-musical Soundtracks might just be some of the most common lp's there are in fleamarkets these days - apparently due to the huge success that musical got in the late 60's and in the beginning of 70's. Usually these soundtracks doesn't get very much attention in the flow of diggin.

However last week at one of the local spots this one caught my eye with it's nice colorful cover! =) And with a little further investigation it proved to be The Original Japanese Cast Recording of that legendary hippie musical. Somehow it rang a bell, and then I remembered it: it's got Dead End on it. A great progressive-funk tune that was also presented on Soulman's Crate Classics -compilation. Too bad my pick is USA repress from 1971 not a Japan 1969 original

This weeks pick is no more no less but one of the best disco maxisingles I've ever heard: Bullet Train. As much as I know this is the only release that they ever got out. Hard luck, because both sides on this one are tight as hell and absolute winners. This single came out on UK-based Sidewalk records in 1979.

A-side is called Don't Hold Back My Bullets. Almost everything is in place here: brasshits, bassline, fuzzy wahguitar and even the lyrics. Hard to get better maybe?

Not necessarily, because the real Bang Bang banger is on the B-side which starts by long drumbreak with electric piano. The song builds up nicely and in the end there's real disco inferno going on! =) (Don't mind that little crack in the beginning of this one. Fleamarket finds are not always that minty, as you know)

My pick of the week is creatively titled Latest Hits. Album came out in 1974 and the artist is called The Don Kelly Band. This french lp ain't that special as a whole, but it has one really nice piece in it that makes it worth posting here: Guitar Shower.

Once again this one reminds me of library themes. Catchy melody played by brass and guitar over rolling drumbreak. In the end however it's all about wahwah, that makes this song so nice.

I haven't ever really been interested in bossa nova. Or, I haven't ever really listened to it, except few Gilberto & Getz -albums I have in my recordshelf. However, last week's best find really got me thinking bossa nova all over again.

It's Golden Bossa Nova by Sonia Rosa released on Emi/Regal-label sometime in the sixties. If I had to recommend some audio for sunny summerday, it would probably be this lp. No more no less, but just easy going basslines and rhythms combined with one of the most beautiful singing voices.

The track I picked for your ears is Burt Bacharach classic The Look Of love. Second half of the track is a real floor filler, in my opinion.
